The St. Louis Calligraphy Guild, founded in 1980, is a nonprofit organization made up of all types of lettering artists, from beginners to professionals and everything in between. We strive to not only learn/practice calligraphic letterforms but to also enjoy the friendships that evolve from diving into the creative process together. Membership is open to anyone regardless of one’s calligraphic ability.
Our Board of Directors is elected annually and responsibilities include directing various committees of volunteers in order to provide a varied and exciting agenda for meetings and special events. Our regular monthly meetings are as varied as our members. We also offer 2 workshops each year… one in the fall and one in the spring. These workshops are open to both members and non members and all skill levels are welcomed. Our workshop instructors include both local experts and internationally renowned calligraphers.
The Guild has sponsored two of the annual International Conference of Calligraphy and the Book Arts, in 1997 and again in 2004. The Guild has also participated in the Textured Images Exhibit at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild, as well as presented a special 25th Anniversary Exhibit displaying the art of various instructors who have taught workshops in St. Louis over its first 25 years. The Guild also actively participates in the national Association for the Calligraphic Arts.
