The St. Louis Calligraphy Guild, established in 1980, is a non-profit organization that attracts individuals passionate about alphabets and mark making materials. Our members range from complete beginners to professional artists, fountain pen enthusiasts, and students, with most falling somewhere in between. As a thriving calligraphy society, we focus on learning and practicing calligraphic letter forms while fostering friendships that develop through our shared creative journeys.
The Board of Directors, elected annually, manages our calendar and organizes hands-on projects for meetings, workshops, and community outings. Our monthly meetings are free and showcase the diversity of our members. You'll find that calligraphers are some of the most welcoming individuals, eager to share their materials and expertise. Experience it for yourself! We offer calligraphy lessons in the area, fall and spring workshops open to everyone, with first-time participants enjoying a half-price discount. All skill levels are welcome Our workshop instructors include both local experts and internationally renowned calligraphers.
Membership is available to anyone, regardless of their calligraphic skill level. Join us for educational and social events and discover the benefits of our $30 annual membership.
The St. Louis Calligraphy Guild has proudly sponsored the annual International Conference of Calligraphy and the Book Arts twice, first in 1997 and again in 2004. Additionally, we have participated in the Textured Images Exhibit at the St. Louis Art Guild and showcased a special 25th Anniversary Exhibit featuring the art of various instructors who taught workshops in St. Louis during our first 25 years. The Guild also actively engages with the National Association for the Calligraphic Arts.
